“I Could Have Been a Rocket Scientist” was the album title. I endeavored with my bandmates to create a narrative of a hapless inventor who risks it all and almost loses everything. We expressed it through an album design documenting a rocket launch gone awry and accompanying liner notes that range across the inventor’s idea-filled lab. Burst-shooting the photographs for the cover, we realized they looked like stop-motion captures, and were inspired to write a music video around the frames. The video for “Sunrise Over Venus” was shot soon afterwards, and finished with a combination of love and gifts from friends in our community. The video was recognized by io9.com and played at the 2012 Utah Film Festive ‘Fear No Film’ program.
